The Schlossviertel (castel quarter) of Chemnitz
is located in the north-east sction of town and lies on the right side of the road B95 direction of Leipzig. 
The city of Chemnitz originated in this section in the year of 1136.
During that time stood the Benedikt cloister St. Marien on the hill near the river Chemnitz, today called Schlossberg (castel hill).
          The Schlosskirche
  The Schlosskirche (castle church) was build between 1499 and 1525 on the foundation of an older romanesque cloister church. 
The spire recived 1949 a new design since the splendor of the original spire had been lost through distruction of the 2. W.W in 1945.
Worth seeing:
- The Noth Portal of Franz Maidburg with carvings by Hans Witten. (the portal has been placed inside the church for protection from weather) 
 - The Hostage Column by Hans Witten 
 - Paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder

Near the Schlosskirche(church) is the Kuechwald Park (park) and below the hill is the Schlossteich(castle lake)with Schlosspark.
